How a mathematics class works
A Tutix class is a live, spoken lesson one-to-one with an AI tutor. For mathematics:
- You show your working. Math marks are for method, so the tutor reads each line you write, not only the answer.
- One idea at a time. A worked example, then a question like it, then one that is slightly different, so you learn to choose the method.
- Check habits. Substitute back, estimate first, and say the units, the checks that catch slips before they cost marks.
- The same mistake gets named. If you drop a minus sign in three classes, the recap says so and the next class starts there.
Mathematics · Algebra · Expanding brackets
Expand (x + 3)2.
Squaring a bracket means multiplying it by itself: (x + 3)(x + 3). Write out all four products. What do the two middle ones give?
A sample written to show how a class sounds. The scores show how the exam would credit each answer. Not a real learner.
Programs that teach it
Each program is taught unit by unit as 15-minute lessons, at five levels from a quick review to the deepest level.
| Program | Curriculum | Units | Topics | Standard (hours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IGCSE Mathematics | IGCSE | 9 | 41 | 21.2 |
| IGCSE Additional Mathematics | IGCSE | 15 | 22 | 11 |
| AP Precalculus | AP | 4 | 58 | 26.2 |
| AP Calculus AB | AP | 8 | 81 | 29.2 |
| AP Calculus BC | AP | 10 | 111 | 39.8 |
| AP Statistics | AP | 5 | 55 | 25.5 |
Every program that teaches mathematics sits beside the others, to one hours scale, on the Programs page.

What the tutor watches for
The mistakes below cost marks most often in mathematics. A tutor that knows them can catch them at the step where they happen.
- Squaring a bracket as if it were two separate terms: (x + 3)2 is not x2 + 9.
- Losing a sign when expanding or moving a term across an equals sign.
- Stopping at an expression when the question asks for a value, or giving an answer without the unit or the rounding asked for.
- Using a formula without checking that its conditions hold.
What it costs
You can start on the Free plan: 45 live class minutes a month (about one class of the default length), no card needed. Pro is $15 a month for 6 hours of live class time, and Pro+ is $30 for 15 hours.
| Plan | Price | Live class time a month | Works out to | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 45 min | about one class | No card needed |
| Pro | $15 a month | 360 min (6 hours) | $2.50 an hour | $150 a year if paid yearly |
| Pro+ | $30 a month | 900 min (15 hours) | $2 an hour | $300 a year if paid yearly |
| Pico | No monthly fee | Pay as you go | $3 an hour ($0.05 a minute) | Paid from a wallet you top up |
The hourly figure is the plan's price divided by the live class hours it includes, when you use them all. Live class time is the tutor teaching you; other limits (study items, messages, uploads) are on the pricing page.
Questions people ask
Can an AI tutor really teach math?
Yes, for most school math. The tutor explains a method, asks you to try one, reads your working and tells you what is right and what is missing. It can make mistakes like any AI, so check important results against your textbook or teacher.
What level of math can Tutix teach?
Ready-made programs cover IGCSE Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, AP Precalculus, Calculus AB and BC and Statistics. For any other level, start a class and name the topic or upload your own notes.
Can it help with homework?
Yes. The tutor works through a problem with you and asks questions rather than only giving the answer, which is how you learn to do the next one yourself.
Does it work for adults?
Tutix is for students aged 13 and over, including adults studying math.
