Compare your options: before you choose a tutor

Updated · How we check our pages

The short answer

An AI tutor is one of several ways to get help: a private tutor, a tutoring center, a tutor marketplace, a general chatbot or a study app. These pages compare them on cost, quality, availability and fit, and say plainly when another option is the better choice.

No option wins everywhere. Each page says what it is best at and where it falls short.

Every page puts the other option's strengths first where it has them, sources any figure from outside Tutix, and ends with how people combine the two. The prices of human tutors are in what a private tutor costs, and the evidence on AI tutoring is in does AI tutoring work?.

Five questions to ask of any option

  • What does an hour of real teaching cost once fees, minimums and travel are counted?
  • Who or what is teaching you, and how is that checked?
  • What happens between sessions: does anyone remember what was covered last time?
  • What do you receive after each session, and who else can see it?
  • How do you stop, and what does stopping cost?

The answers matter more than the label. A human tutor, a center, a marketplace, a chatbot and an AI tutor can each be the right choice for a different child or a different month.

Questions people ask

Does Tutix compare itself with named companies?

No. These pages compare kinds of help, such as a private tutor or a chatbot, not companies.

Is an AI tutor better than a human tutor?

Neither is better for everyone: an AI tutor is stronger on availability, patience and cost, a person on judgement and mentoring. Many families use both.
