Where Tutix is today
A ready-made A Level Further Mathematics program is planned and not available yet. You can start a A Level Further Mathematics class now: the tutor teaches live from your syllabus or notes. Ready-made programs exist for other courses.
The qualification
Cambridge International AS & A Level Further Mathematics is syllabus 9231. The syllabus for exams in 2026 and 2027 is the 2026-2027 syllabus (version 3); a 2028-2030 syllabus follows. Exams are in the June and November series; there is no March series for this subject. AS candidates are eligible for grades a to e (in lower case) and A Level candidates for A* to E.
The papers
| Paper | Title | Time | Marks | AS share | A Level share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Further Pure Mathematics 1 | 2 h | 75 | 60% | 30% |
| 2 | Further Pure Mathematics 2 | 2 h | 75 | Not offered | 30% |
| 3 | Further Mechanics | 1 h 30 | 50 | 40% | 20% |
| 4 | Further Probability & Statistics | 1 h 30 | 50 | 40% | 20% |
For AS, take Paper 1 plus either Paper 3 or Paper 4. For the A Level, take all four papers. A scientific calculator is expected; graphical calculators are not permitted.
What the marks test
At both AS and A Level, Cambridge gives 45% to knowledge and understanding and 55% to application and communication. Cambridge calls these weightings approximate.
| Assessment objective | AS Level | A Level |
|---|---|---|
| AO1 Knowledge and understanding | 45% | 45% |
| AO2 Application and communication | 55% | 55% |
| Assessment objective | Paper 1 | Paper 2 | Paper 3 | Paper 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AO1 Knowledge and understanding | 45% | 45% | 45% | 45% |
| AO2 Application and communication | 55% | 55% | 55% | 55% |
What the syllabus covers
Cambridge's A Level Further Mathematics syllabus is divided into four content sections, each with the numbered sub-topics below.
- Further Pure Mathematics 1 (Paper 1): Roots of polynomial equations, Rational functions and graphs, Summation of series, Matrices, Polar coordinates, Vectors, Proof by induction
- Further Pure Mathematics 2 (Paper 2): Hyperbolic functions, Matrices, Differentiation, Integration, Complex numbers, Differential equations
- Further Mechanics (Paper 3): Motion of a projectile, Equilibrium of a rigid body, Circular motion, Hooke’s law, Linear motion under a variable force, Momentum
- Further Probability & Statistics (Paper 4): Continuous random variables, Inference using normal and t-distributions, 2, Non-parametric tests, Probability generating functions
How to prepare with Tutix today
Type A Level Further Mathematics in the class wizard, attach your own notes or syllabus if you have them, choose a tutor and join: the tutor teaches on a shared whiteboard and reads what you write while you are still in class.
A Level Further Mathematics · Further Pure Mathematics 1 · Complex numbers
Find the modulus of the complex number 3 + 4i.
The modulus is a distance: how far 3 + 4i is from the origin on the Argand diagram. Picture the right-angled triangle with sides 3 and 4.
A sample written to show how a class sounds. The scores show how the exam would credit each answer. Not a real learner.
What a ready-made program adds, and what it costs
Ready-made programs, such as IGCSE Physics, come with lessons and questions reviewed in advance, at five levels. The Free plan includes 45 live class minutes a month with no card; see the plans.
The twelve ready-made programs are drawn to scale, with a real lesson to read, on the Programs page.
