What Cambridge IGCSE is
Cambridge IGCSE is Cambridge's international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, taken as single subjects at the end of the course. Cambridge says it aligns IGCSE standards with the GCSE taken in England. Most subjects are graded A* to G. Where a subject has tiers, Core targets lower grades and Extended contains the Core content plus more. Exams are in June and November, with a March series for centres in India.
The IGCSE programs ready on Tutix
| Course | Units | Topics | Standard, Extended track (hours) | Full syllabus, Extended track (hours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IGCSE Additional Mathematics | 15 | 22 | 11 | 24.2 |
| IGCSE Mathematics | 9 | 41 | 21.2 | 44.8 |
| IGCSE Biology | 20 | 50 | 24.5 | 52.8 |
| IGCSE Chemistry | 12 | 18 | 11.2 | 25 |
| IGCSE Physics | 6 | 38 | 18.2 | 37 |
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology have a Core track and an Extended track; Core skips the topics only Extended students sit, so its hours are fewer than the Extended hours in the table. Additional Mathematics has one tier. Your school enters you for one tier, so ask your teacher which: Core or Extended?
How the papers are built
Mathematics has two papers a tier, one without a calculator. Physics, Chemistry and Biology have a multiple-choice paper (30%), a theory paper (50%) and a practical or alternative-to-practical paper (20%). The details, with marks and timings, are in IGCSE papers explained.
How a class prepares you
- You answer as you go. The tutor asks, you reply by voice or on the whiteboard, and it reads what you wrote while you are still in class and tells you what is missing.
- Command words. The tutor teaches what "describe", "explain" and "calculate" each ask for, because that is where the marks are.
- Calculations with working. Equation, substitution, answer, unit: the order marks are awarded in.
- A recap after each class, for you and, if you choose, a parent, with what was covered and what is next.
IGCSE · Stoichiometry · The mole
Calculate the moles in 5.3 g of Na2CO3. (Ar: Na = 23, C = 12, O = 16)
Mr = 106 is right. Moles are mass divided by Mr. Check the units: g ÷ g/mol leaves mol, so you divide.
A sample written to show how a class sounds. The scores show how the exam would credit each answer. Not a real learner.
The five levels
| Level | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Short | The big picture of every unit, plus the must-know ideas. |
| Standard | Every topic taught once, with worked examples and practice questions. |
| In depth | Standard, plus a second, deeper class on the hardest topics. |
| Extended | Every topic in full depth, plus classes on exam technique. |
| Full syllabus | Everything above, a recap of every unit, and the full mock exams. |
The Programs page draws every IGCSE program's hours at each level on one scale, with Core and Extended side by side where a program has both, and shows what a pass costs.
Other IGCSE subjects
Ready-made programs for more IGCSE subjects are planned: IGCSE Computer Science, IGCSE Economics, IGCSE Business, IGCSE Geography, IGCSE History, IGCSE Accounting and IGCSE English First Language. For these or any other subject, start a class today: name the subject, attach your own notes, and the tutor builds the classes around them.
What it costs
You can start on the Free plan: 45 live class minutes a month (about one class of the default length), no card needed. Pro is $15 a month for 6 hours of live class time, and Pro+ is $30 for 15 hours.
| Plan | Price | Live class time a month | Works out to | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 45 min | about one class | No card needed |
| Pro | $15 a month | 360 min (6 hours) | $2.50 an hour | $150 a year if paid yearly |
| Pro+ | $30 a month | 900 min (15 hours) | $2 an hour | $300 a year if paid yearly |
| Pico | No monthly fee | Pay as you go | $3 an hour ($0.05 a minute) | Paid from a wallet you top up |
The hourly figure is the plan's price divided by the live class hours it includes, when you use them all. Live class time is the tutor teaching you; other limits (study items, messages, uploads) are on the pricing page.
