A biology tutor: that teaches you to explain

Updated · How we check our pages

Taught by Pixel, The Visual Thinker “Let's turn today's ideas into something you can picture.”

The short answer

Tutix teaches biology live: the AI tutor explains each idea, shows the diagrams and asks you to explain it back, then reads your written answer and tells you which points are missing. Ready-made programs cover AP Biology and IGCSE Biology, Core and Extended, and any other course can be taught from your own notes.

  • Live, spoken, one-to-one

How a biology class works

A Tutix class is a live, spoken lesson one-to-one with an AI tutor. For biology:

  • Say it in the right words. Biology marks go to the correct term, so the tutor teaches the vocabulary and asks you to use it.
  • Describe, then explain. "Describe" wants the trend with numbers; "explain" wants the reason.
  • Diagrams and data. Lessons carry the pictures and graphs a course uses, and you are asked what they show.
  • Written answers read live, with the recap naming the points you tend to leave out.

Biology · Transport · Osmosis

Potato strips lose mass in a concentrated sugar solution. Explain why.

You wrote Sugar goes into the potato. 0 of 3

The strips lost mass, so something left them. What is the most abundant substance inside the cells, and which way will it move?

Your rewrite Water moves out of the cells by osmosis, from a higher water potential inside to a lower one in the concentrated solution. 3 of 3

A sample written to show how a class sounds. The scores show how the exam would credit each answer. Not a real learner.

Programs that teach it

Each program is taught unit by unit as 15-minute lessons, at five levels from a quick review to the deepest level.

Planned: A Level Biology. Until a ready-made program exists you can start a class on any of them from your own notes, and see every program, including those coming soon.

What the tutor watches for

The mistakes below cost marks most often in biology. A tutor that knows them can catch them at the step where they happen.

  • Saying an enzyme is killed by heat: it is a protein, and it is denatured.
  • Explaining osmosis as water moving to where there is more solute, without saying it moves from higher to lower water potential across a membrane.
  • Describing a graph without numbers, or explaining when asked only to describe.
  • Mixing up similar terms, such as mitosis and meiosis or transcription and translation.
  • Forgetting the 2 in 2pq when finding heterozygotes in a Hardy-Weinberg question.

What it costs

You can start on the Free plan: 45 live class minutes a month (about one class of the default length), no card needed. Pro is $15 a month for 6 hours of live class time, and Pro+ is $30 for 15 hours.

The hourly figure is the plan's price divided by the live class hours it includes, when you use them all. Live class time is the tutor teaching you; other limits (study items, messages, uploads) are on the pricing page.

Questions people ask

Can an AI tutor teach biology?

Yes for the concepts, vocabulary and written answers a course asks for. It cannot run a practical with you, so lab skills need a teacher or a lab.

Which biology courses does Tutix cover?

AP Biology and IGCSE Biology (Core and Extended) are ready-made. A Level Biology is planned, and any other course can be taught from your own notes.

Does it help with long-answer questions?

Yes. You write the answer, the tutor reads it live and tells you which points a full answer includes and which you left out.

Can it help with biology data questions?

Yes. The tutor teaches how to describe a trend with numbers and where a line changes, and then how to explain it.
