How a chemistry class works
A Tutix class is a live, spoken lesson one-to-one with an AI tutor. For chemistry:
- Particles first. You explain what the particles are doing before you write the symbols.
- The mole, step by step. Mass, moles, ratio, answer: each line checked.
- Equations balanced properly. Changing a number in front, never a formula.
- Command words. The tutor teaches what "describe", "explain" and "calculate" each ask for.
Chemistry · Equations · Balancing
Balance: Mg + O2 → MgO
You can never change a formula to balance an equation, only the numbers in front. Magnesium oxide is MgO. Count the oxygen atoms on each side.
A sample written to show how a class sounds. The scores show how the exam would credit each answer. Not a real learner.
Programs that teach it
Each program is taught unit by unit as 15-minute lessons, at five levels from a quick review to the deepest level.
| Program | Curriculum | Units | Topics | Standard (hours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AP Chemistry | AP | 9 | 91 | 30.8 |
| IGCSE Chemistry | IGCSE | 12 | 18 | 11.2 |
Every program that teaches chemistry sits beside the others, to one hours scale, on the Programs page.
What the programs cover
The units of each ready-made chemistry program, as the course itself divides them.
AP Chemistry
- Atomic Structure and Properties
- Compound Structure and Properties
- Properties of Substances and Mixtures
- Chemical Reactions
- Kinetics
- Thermochemistry
- Equilibrium
- Acids and Bases
- Thermodynamics and Electrochemistry
IGCSE Chemistry
- States of matter
- Atoms, elements and compounds
- Stoichiometry
- Electrochemistry
- Chemical energetics
- Chemical reactions
- Acids, bases and salts
- The Periodic Table
- Metals
- Chemistry of the environment
- Organic chemistry
- Experimental techniques and chemical analysis
Planned: A Level Chemistry. Until a ready-made program exists you can start a class on any of them from your own notes, and see every program, including those coming soon.
What the tutor watches for
The mistakes below cost marks most often in chemistry. A tutor that knows them can catch them at the step where they happen.
- Changing a formula to balance an equation instead of the number in front of it.
- Giving the mass of one mole as the answer when the question asks for the mass of the amount used.
- Multiplying by the molar mass when moles are found by dividing the mass by it.
- Forgetting the ratio in the equation when moving from one substance to another.
- Writing an answer to the wrong number of significant figures, or with no unit.
What it costs
You can start on the Free plan: 45 live class minutes a month (about one class of the default length), no card needed. Pro is $15 a month for 6 hours of live class time, and Pro+ is $30 for 15 hours.
| Plan | Price | Live class time a month | Works out to | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 45 min | about one class | No card needed |
| Pro | $15 a month | 360 min (6 hours) | $2.50 an hour | $150 a year if paid yearly |
| Pro+ | $30 a month | 900 min (15 hours) | $2 an hour | $300 a year if paid yearly |
| Pico | No monthly fee | Pay as you go | $3 an hour ($0.05 a minute) | Paid from a wallet you top up |
The hourly figure is the plan's price divided by the live class hours it includes, when you use them all. Live class time is the tutor teaching you; other limits (study items, messages, uploads) are on the pricing page.
Questions people ask
Can an AI tutor teach chemistry?
Yes for the concepts and calculations a course asks for. It cannot sit beside you at a lab bench, so practical work needs a teacher or a lab.
Which chemistry courses does Tutix cover?
AP Chemistry and IGCSE Chemistry (Core and Extended) are ready-made. A Level Chemistry is planned, and any other course can be taught from your own notes.
Can it help with stoichiometry and the mole?
Yes. It is one of the most common places students lose marks, so the tutor takes it step by step.
Does it check my written explanations?
Yes. It reads what you write while you are in class and tells you what is missing.
