**The short answer.** IGCSE Mathematics on Tutix is a ready-made series of live classes with an AI tutor. It covers all 9 units and 41 topics, in five levels from 5 hours to the full 44.8. It ends with 2 full practice papers (28 questions each). You can start on the free plan.

- Follows the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus
- 9 units and 41 topics, taught in 15-minute lessons
- Five levels, 5 to 44.8 hours of teaching
- 2 full practice papers, 200 marks each
- Starts on the free plan (45 live minutes a month)

## What IGCSE Mathematics covers

The program teaches mathematical techniques and understanding across number, algebra, geometry, statistics and other areas. It develops reasoning and problem-solving skills for abstract and real-life contexts, and provides a foundation for further study.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (syllabus 0580) is taken at two tiers. Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3 and can reach grades C to G. Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4 and can reach A* to E. One paper at each tier is a non-calculator paper.

### Unit 1: Number

Topics: Types of number and sets; Powers, roots and indices; Fractions, decimals, percentages and the four operations; Standard form, estimation and limits of accuracy; Ratio, proportion and rates; Percentages, calculator, time and money; Exponential growth and decay; Surds.

### Unit 2: Algebra and graphs

Topics: Introduction to algebra and algebraic manipulation; Algebraic fractions and indices II; Equations; Inequalities; Sequences; Proportion; Graphs in practical situations; Graphs of functions and sketching curves; Functions; Differentiation.

### Unit 3: Coordinate geometry

Topics: Coordinates, linear graphs and gradient; Length, midpoint and equations of lines; Parallel and perpendicular lines.

### Unit 4: Geometry

Topics: Geometrical terms and constructions; Scale drawings, similarity and symmetry; Angles; Circle theorems.

### Unit 5: Mensuration

Topics: Units, area and perimeter; Circles, arcs and sectors; Surface area, volume and compound shapes.

### Unit 6: Trigonometry

Topics: Pythagoras and right-angled triangles; Exact values and trigonometric functions; Non-right-angled triangles and three-dimensional problems.

### Unit 7: Transformations and vectors

Topics: Transformations; Vectors: notation, magnitude and geometry.

### Unit 8: Probability

Topics: Introduction, relative and expected frequency; Probability of combined events; Conditional probability.

### Unit 9: Statistics

Topics: Classifying and interpreting data; Averages and spread; Statistical charts and diagrams; Scatter diagrams; Cumulative frequency diagrams and histograms.

## A class in IGCSE Mathematics, opened

Every class works like this. The tutor asks, you answer in your own words, and it reads what you wrote while you are still in the room, then tells you what is missing and asks you to try again.

A class, opened. A sample written to show how a class sounds (not a real learner); the scores show how the exam would credit each answer.

> **Number · Percentage change.** Question: Increase $240 by 15%.
> The student wrote: $255 (the exam would credit 0 of 2)
> The tutor: You are close. You added 15, but 15% means 15 out of every 100. Find 15% of 240 first, then add it on.
> The student then wrote: 15% of 240 = 36, so 240 + 36 = $276 (the exam would credit 2 of 2)

## How the IGCSE Mathematics exam is built

Each tier has two papers worth 50% of the grade each. Core Papers 1 and 3 are 1 hour 30 minutes and 80 marks; Extended Papers 2 and 4 are 2 hours and 100 marks. Paper 1 (Core) and Paper 2 (Extended) are non-calculator; Paper 3 and Paper 4 require a scientific calculator. Exams are sat in the June and November series.

| Exam section | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Paper 1 Non-calculator (Core) | 90 min · 80 marks · 50% of the score; No calculator |
| Paper 3 Calculator (Core) | 90 min · 80 marks · 50% of the score; Calculator |
| Paper 2 Non-calculator (Extended) | 120 min · 100 marks · 50% of the score; No calculator |
| Paper 4 Calculator (Extended) | 120 min · 100 marks · 50% of the score; Calculator |

## How long does IGCSE Mathematics take?

Every level covers the whole syllabus. A deeper level only adds classes, so you can go deeper later and keep everything you have done. Hours are hours of teaching, counted in classes of 45 or 60 minutes.

| Level | Hours | Classes of 45 min |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Short | 5 | 7 |
| Standard | 21.2 | 29 |
| In depth | 31.2 | 42 |
| Extended | 41.8 | 56 |
| Full syllabus | 44.8 | 60 |

The Programs page draws IGCSE Mathematics beside the other eleven programs on one hours scale, with what a pass costs at each level.

## Questions

**How many hours of teaching does IGCSE Mathematics take on Tutix?**

The Standard level takes 21.2 hours: 29 classes of 45 minutes, or 22 of 60. The Full syllabus level takes 44.8 hours (60 classes of 45 minutes). The Short level is 5 hours. Every level covers the whole syllabus; deeper levels add classes.

**What does the IGCSE Mathematics exam look like?**

As the board publishes it, the exam has these parts: Paper 1 Non-calculator (Core) (90 minutes); Paper 3 Calculator (Core) (90 minutes); Paper 2 Non-calculator (Extended) (120 minutes); Paper 4 Calculator (Extended) (120 minutes). Check your board's current specification for the exact format of the year you sit it.

**Are there practice papers for IGCSE Mathematics?**

Yes. The Full syllabus level includes 2 full practice papers written for Tutix in the style of the real exam (28 questions and 200 marks each). You can sit them as long homework, and a class can go over them afterwards.

**Is this an official Cambridge IGCSE course?**

No. Tutix is not affiliated with Cambridge and its IGCSE Mathematics classes are not endorsed by Cambridge. The lessons and questions are Tutix's own, prepared to follow the published IGCSE Mathematics syllabus, and the real exam is set and marked by Cambridge.

**Can I try IGCSE Mathematics for free?**

Yes. The Free plan includes 45 live class minutes a month, about one class of the default length, and no card is needed. Pro is $15 a month for 360 live minutes (6 hours), and Pro+ is $30 a month for 900 live minutes.

**Is the IGCSE Mathematics tutor a person?**

No. The tutor is an AI. It talks with you in real time, teaches on a whiteboard, reads your answers and remembers what each earlier class covered. A parent can set up a child's classes and choose to get a recap after each one.

**Should I enter Core or Extended IGCSE Mathematics?**

Cambridge says Core is intended for candidates expected to achieve grade D or below and Extended for grade C or above. Core can reach grades C to G and Extended A* to E. Your school decides the entry, so ask your teacher which tier you are being prepared for.

**When are the IGCSE Mathematics exams?**

Cambridge sets IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series, and offers a March series to centres in India. Schools enter their candidates; private candidates enter through an exam centre that accepts private candidates. Cambridge does not provide tuition to private candidates.

**Is IGCSE Mathematics the same standard as GCSE?**

Cambridge says it aligns IGCSE standards with the GCSE taken in England, and the syllabus cites a benchmarking study that found IGCSE comparable to the UK GCSE standard. Cambridge describes IGCSE as an international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, though other ages can take it.
