**The short answer.** A ready-made IGCSE Computer Science program is planned for Tutix. Until it is ready, you can start an IGCSE Computer Science class today: type the subject, add your own notes, and the AI tutor teaches it live, reads your answers and remembers each class. This page explains how Cambridge 0478 is examined.

- Cambridge syllabus 0478
- No tiers: every candidate is entered for grades A* to G
- Graded A* to G
- Ready-made program planned; classes built from your notes today

## Where Tutix is today

A ready-made IGCSE Computer Science program is planned and not available yet. You can start a IGCSE Computer Science class now: the tutor teaches live from your syllabus or notes. Ready-made programs exist for other courses.

## The qualification

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science is syllabus 0478. The 2026-2028 syllabus covers the 2027 and 2028 exams. A revised syllabus starts from 2029, so it is not the one you will sit in 2027 or 2028. There are no Core and Extended tiers, so every candidate is entered for grades A* to G. Exams are in the June and November series, and in March for centres in India.

## The papers

| Paper | Title | Time | Marks | Weighting |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Computer Systems | 1 h 45 | 75 | 50% |
| 2 | Algorithms, Programming and Logic | 1 h 45 | 75 | 50% |

Calculators are not permitted. Paper 2 ends with a 15-mark scenario question answered in pseudocode or in a programming language (Python, Visual Basic or Java).

## What the marks test

Cambridge weights the marks of IGCSE Computer Science between three assessment objectives: knowledge and understanding of computer science (40%), applying that knowledge to a context, including analysing and designing problems (40%) and providing solutions by evaluating systems and making reasoned judgements (20%). Cambridge calls these weightings approximate.

| Assessment objective | IGCSE |
| --- | --- |
| AO1 Knowledge and understanding of computer science | 40% |
| AO2 Applying that knowledge to a context, including analysing and designing problems | 40% |
| AO3 Providing solutions by evaluating systems and making reasoned judgements | 20% |

| Assessment objective | Paper 1 | Paper 2 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AO1 Knowledge and understanding of computer science | 60% | 20% |
| AO2 Applying that knowledge to a context, including analysing and designing problems | 20% | 60% |
| AO3 Providing solutions by evaluating systems and making reasoned judgements | 20% | 20% |

## What the syllabus covers

Cambridge's IGCSE Computer Science syllabus lists ten topics.

Computer systems

1. Data representation
2. Data transmission
3. Hardware
4. Software
5. The internet and its uses
6. Automated and emerging technologies

Algorithms, programming and logic

7. Algorithm design and problem-solving
8. Programming
9. Databases
10. Boolean logic

## How to prepare with Tutix today

Type IGCSE Computer Science in the class wizard, attach your own notes or syllabus if you have them, choose a tutor and join: the tutor teaches on a shared whiteboard and reads what you write while you are still in class.

A class, opened. A sample written to show how a class sounds (not a real learner); the scores show how the exam would credit each answer.

> **Data representation · Binary.** Question: Convert the denary number 25 to binary.
> The student wrote: 11100 (the exam would credit 0 of 1)
> The tutor: Check by converting back: 11100 is 16 + 8 + 4 = 28. Which place values add up to 25?
> The student then wrote: 25 = 16 + 8 + 1, so the binary is 11001. (the exam would credit 1 of 1)

> **What the tutor will not do.** It is built to explain and give feedback, not to write coursework or any work you submit for assessment. It explains the ideas and what a strong answer needs, so the work stays yours.

## What a ready-made program adds, and what it costs

Ready-made programs, such as IGCSE Physics, come with lessons and questions reviewed in advance, at five levels. The Free plan includes 45 live class minutes a month with no card; see the plans.

The twelve ready-made programs are drawn to scale, with a real lesson to read, on the Programs page.

## Questions

**Does Tutix have an IGCSE Computer Science program?**

Not ready-made yet; it is planned. Today you can start an IGCSE Computer Science class: type the subject, attach your own notes, and the tutor builds the classes around them.

**What topics are in IGCSE Computer Science?**

Data representation, Data transmission, Hardware, Software, The internet and its uses, Automated and emerging technologies, Algorithm design and problem-solving, Programming, Databases and Boolean logic.

**What papers are in IGCSE Computer Science?**

Paper 1, Computer Systems, 1 h 45, 75 marks; Paper 2, Algorithms, Programming and Logic, 1 h 45, 75 marks.

**Are there Core and Extended tiers in IGCSE Computer Science?**

No. There are no tiers, so every candidate is eligible for grades A* to G.

**Which IGCSE Computer Science syllabus should I follow?**

The 2026-2028 syllabus covers the 2027 and 2028 exams. A revised syllabus starts from 2029, so it is not the one you will sit in 2027 or 2028. Check the syllabus your school or exam centre is entering you for.
