**The short answer.** A ready-made AP Physics 1 program is planned for Tutix. Until it is ready, you can start an AP Physics 1 class today: type the course, add your own notes, and the AI tutor teaches it live, reads your answers and remembers each class. This page explains how the May 2027 exam is built.

- Exam: Wednesday, May 5, 2027 (afternoon session)
- 42 multiple-choice questions in 85 minutes
- 8 units
- Ready-made program planned; classes built from your notes today

## Where Tutix is today

A ready-made AP Physics 1 program is planned and not available yet. You can start a AP Physics 1 class now: the tutor teaches live from your syllabus or notes. Ready-made programs exist for other courses.

## How the 2027 exam is built

AP Physics 1 is sat on Wednesday, May 5, 2027 (afternoon session). The exam is 3 hours long: a multiple-choice section of 42 questions in 85 minutes, then the written section. Calculators are permitted. Delivery: multiple choice on a device, free response in a handwritten booklet.

| Exam section | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Multiple choice | 42 questions · 85 min · 50% of the score; Calculator allowed |
| Free response | 4 questions · 95 min · 50% of the score; Calculator allowed |

## What changed for 2027

For May 2027 the College Board updated the number of multiple-choice questions and the timing of each section: 42 questions in 85 minutes, and 4 free-response questions in 95 minutes. The format before was reported as 40 questions in 80 minutes and 100 minutes for the free-response section. The College Board's course pages do not report a change to the course content.

## What the written questions ask

- Four questions, one of each type: a mathematical routine, a translation between representations, an experimental design and analysis, and a qualitative and quantitative translation.

## What it covers

| Unit | Share of the multiple-choice section |
| --- | --- |
| 1 Kinematics | 10 to 15% |
| 2 Force and Translational Dynamics | 18 to 23% |
| 3 Work, Energy, and Power | 18 to 23% |
| 4 Linear Momentum | 10 to 15% |
| 5 Torque and Rotational Dynamics | 10 to 15% |
| 6 Energy and Momentum of Rotating Systems | 5 to 8% |
| 7 Oscillations | 5 to 8% |
| 8 Fluids | 10 to 15% |

## How students have scored, 2021 to 2026

How students scored in 2026 (share of students at each AP score):

| Score | Share of students |
| --- | --- |
| 5 | 19% |
| 4 | 24% |
| 3 | 25% |
| 2 | 15% |
| 1 | 17% |

The share of students scoring 3 or higher on AP Physics 1 was 42.1% in 2021 and 68% in 2026. The College Board reviews each exam's score standards every five to ten years, so a change from one year to the next can reflect a new standard as well as how students did. AP pass rates for every exam shows the whole table.

| Year | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 3 or higher | Students | Mean score |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 2026 | 19% | 24% | 25% | 15% | 17% | 68% | n/a | n/a |
| 2025 | 19.8% | 24.7% | 22.9% | 13.4% | 19.2% | 67.3% | 174,401 | 3.12 |
| 2024 | 10.2% | 17.9% | 19.2% | 26.1% | 26.6% | 47.3% | 164,481 | 2.59 |
| 2023 | 8.8% | 18.3% | 18.5% | 28.0% | 26.4% | 45.6% | 159,582 | 2.55 |
| 2022 | 7.9% | 17.0% | 18.3% | 27.1% | 29.6% | 43.2% | 144,526 | 2.47 |
| 2021 | 6.9% | 16.3% | 18.9% | 26.4% | 31.4% | 42.1% | 137,229 | 2.41 |

The College Board describes a 5 as extremely well qualified and a 3 as qualified, and says many US colleges grant credit or placement for a 3 or above, but each college makes its own decisions: check the policies of the colleges you care about.

## How to prepare with Tutix today

Type AP Physics 1 in the class wizard, attach your own notes or syllabus if you have them, choose a tutor and join: the tutor teaches on a shared whiteboard and reads what you write while you are still in class.

A class, opened. A sample written to show how a class sounds (not a real learner); the scores show how the exam would credit each answer.

> **Unit 2 · Newton's second law.** Question: A 2.0 kg cart starts from rest and a net force of 6.0 N acts on it for 3.0 s. What is its final speed?
> The student wrote: a = F/m = 3.0 m/s (the exam would credit 1 of 3)
> The tutor: 3.0 is the acceleration, and its unit is m/s^2, not m/s. The question asks for a speed after 3.0 s. What does a steady acceleration do to speed each second?
> The student then wrote: a = 3.0 m/s^2, so v = at = 3.0 × 3.0 = 9.0 m/s (the exam would credit 3 of 3)

> **What the tutor will not do.** It is built to explain and give feedback, not to write an essay, a response or any work you submit for credit. It explains the ideas and what a strong answer needs, so the work stays yours.

## What a ready-made program adds, and what it costs

Ready-made programs, such as AP Calculus AB, come with lessons and questions reviewed in advance, at five levels. The Free plan includes 45 live class minutes a month with no card; see the plans.

The twelve ready-made programs are drawn to scale, with a real lesson to read, on the Programs page.

## Questions

**Does Tutix have an AP Physics 1 program?**
