## Where Tutix is today

A ready-made AP Computer Science A program is planned and not available yet. You can start a AP Computer Science A class now: the tutor teaches live from your syllabus or notes. Ready-made programs exist for other courses.

## How the 2027 exam is built

AP Computer Science A is sat on Wednesday, May 12, 2027 (afternoon session). The exam is 3 hours long: a multiple-choice section of 42 questions in 90 minutes, then the written section. The College Board's pages do not print a calculator rule for this exam. Delivery: fully digital.

| Exam section | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Multiple choice | 42 questions · 90 min · 55% of the score |
| Free response | 4 questions · 90 min · 45% of the score |

## What the written questions ask

- Four questions: methods and control structures; class design, where you write a new class; data analysis with an ArrayList; and a two-dimensional array.

## What it covers

| Unit | Share of the multiple-choice section |
| --- | --- |
| 1 Using Objects and Methods | 15 to 25% |
| 2 Selection and Iteration | 25 to 35% |
| 3 Class Creation | 10 to 18% |
| 4 Data Collections | 30 to 40% |

## How students have scored, 2021 to 2026

How students scored in 2026 (share of students at each AP score):

| Score | Share of students |
| --- | --- |
| 5 | 25% |
| 4 | 26% |
| 3 | 15% |
| 2 | 11% |
| 1 | 23% |

The share of students scoring 3 or higher on AP Computer Science A was 65.1% in 2021 and 66% in 2026. The College Board reviews each exam's score standards every five to ten years, so a change from one year to the next can reflect a new standard as well as how students did. AP pass rates for every exam shows the whole table.

| Year | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 3 or higher | Students | Mean score |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 2026 | 25% | 26% | 15% | 11% | 23% | 66% | n/a | n/a |
| 2025 | 25.6% | 21.8% | 19.8% | 10.9% | 22.0% | 67.2% | 93,217 | 3.18 |
| 2024 | 25.6% | 21.4% | 20.1% | 10.8% | 22.0% | 67.2% | 98,136 | 3.18 |
| 2023 | 26.8% | 22.4% | 18.8% | 9.5% | 22.5% | 68.0% | 94,438 | 3.21 |
| 2022 | 27.3% | 20.4% | 19.9% | 10.4% | 22.1% | 67.6% | 77,753 | 3.20 |
| 2021 | 23.9% | 21.9% | 19.3% | 12.1% | 22.8% | 65.1% | 63,980 | 3.12 |

The College Board describes a 5 as extremely well qualified and a 3 as qualified, and says many US colleges grant credit or placement for a 3 or above, but each college makes its own decisions: check the policies of the colleges you care about.

## How to prepare with Tutix today

Type AP Computer Science A in the class wizard, attach your own notes or syllabus if you have them, choose a tutor and join: the tutor teaches on a shared whiteboard and reads what you write while you are still in class.

A class, opened. A sample written to show how a class sounds (not a real learner); the scores show how the exam would credit each answer.

> **Unit 1 · Primitive types.** Question: What value is stored in x after int x = 7 / 2; runs?
> The student wrote: 3.5 (the exam would credit 0 of 1)
> The tutor: Look at the types: 7 and 2 are both int, and x is an int. What does Java do when it divides one integer by another?
> The student then wrote: 3: both operands are int, so it is integer division and the fraction is dropped. (the exam would credit 1 of 1)

> **What the tutor will not do.** It is built to explain and give feedback, not to write an essay, a response or any work you submit for credit. It explains the ideas and what a strong answer needs, so the work stays yours.

## What a ready-made program adds, and what it costs

Ready-made programs, such as AP Calculus AB, come with lessons and questions reviewed in advance, at five levels. The Free plan includes 45 live class minutes a month with no card; see the plans.

The twelve ready-made programs are drawn to scale, with a real lesson to read, on the Programs page.
