**The short answer.** A ready-made A Level Computer Science program is planned for Tutix. Until it is ready, you can start an A Level Computer Science class today: type the subject, add your syllabus or notes, and the AI tutor teaches it live, reads your answers and remembers each class. This page explains how Cambridge 9618 is examined.

- Cambridge syllabus 9618
- Ready-made program planned; classes built from your syllabus today
- Exams are in the June and November series; there is no March series for this subject.
- AS is the first half of an A Level

## Where Tutix is today

A ready-made A Level Computer Science program is planned and not available yet. You can start a A Level Computer Science class now: the tutor teaches live from your syllabus or notes. Ready-made programs exist for other courses.

## The qualification

Cambridge International AS & A Level Computer Science is syllabus 9618. The syllabus for exams in 2027, 2028 and 2029 is the 2027-2029 syllabus (version 2). Exams are in the June and November series; there is no March series for this subject. AS candidates are eligible for grades a to e (in lower case) and A Level candidates for A* to E.

## The papers

| Paper | Title | Time | Marks | AS share | A Level share |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Theory Fundamentals | 1 h 30 | 75 | 50% | 25% |
| 2 | Fundamental Problem-solving and Programming Skills (pseudocode) | 2 h | 75 | 50% | 25% |
| 3 | Advanced Theory | 1 h 30 | 75 | Not offered | 25% |
| 4 | Practical (program code and testing evidence, in Java, Visual Basic .NET or Python) | 2 h 30 | 75 | Not offered | 25% |

AS is Papers 1 and 2. The A Level is all four papers. Calculators must not be used in any paper.

## What the marks test

The weightings differ between AS and A Level: at AS Level the largest share (40%) goes to applying that knowledge, including analysing problems in computational terms; at A Level the largest share (40%) goes to designing, programming and evaluating computer systems to solve problems. Cambridge calls these weightings approximate.

| Assessment objective | AS Level | A Level |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AO1 Knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of computer science | 30% | 30% |
| AO2 Applying that knowledge, including analysing problems in computational terms | 40% | 30% |
| AO3 Designing, programming and evaluating computer systems to solve problems | 30% | 40% |

| Assessment objective | Paper 1 | Paper 2 | Paper 3 | Paper 4 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AO1 Knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of computer science | 60% | 0% | 60% | 0% |
| AO2 Applying that knowledge, including analysing problems in computational terms | 40% | 40% | 40% | 0% |
| AO3 Designing, programming and evaluating computer systems to solve problems | 0% | 60% | 0% | 100% |

## What it covers

AS content covers information representation, networks, hardware and logic gates, processor fundamentals and assembly language, system software, security and data integrity, ethics, databases, algorithm design, data types and structures, programming and software development. A Level content adds user-defined data types, file organisation and floating-point numbers, protocols and switching, parallel processing and virtual machines, Boolean algebra, encryption and digital certificates, artificial intelligence, recursion and further programming such as paradigms and exception handling.

## How to prepare with Tutix today

Type A Level Computer Science in the class wizard, attach your own notes or syllabus if you have them, choose a tutor and join: the tutor teaches on a shared whiteboard and reads what you write while you are still in class.

A class, opened. A sample written to show how a class sounds (not a real learner); the scores show how the exam would credit each answer.

> **Data representation · Binary.** Question: Convert the denary number 13 to binary.
> The student wrote: 1011 (the exam would credit 0 of 1)
> The tutor: Check your answer by converting back: 1011 is 8 + 0 + 2 + 1. What does that give? Then rebuild 13 from 8, 4, 2 and 1.
> The student then wrote: 13 = 8 + 4 + 0 + 1, so the binary is 1101. (the exam would credit 1 of 1)

> **What the tutor will not do.** It is built to explain and give feedback, not to write coursework, practical write-ups or any work you hand in as your own. It helps you understand the topic and what a strong answer needs, so the work stays yours.

## What a ready-made program adds, and what it costs

Ready-made programs, such as IGCSE Physics, come with lessons and questions reviewed in advance, at five levels. The Free plan includes 45 live class minutes a month with no card; see the plans.

The twelve ready-made programs are drawn to scale, with a real lesson to read, on the Programs page.

## Questions

**Does Tutix have an A Level Computer Science program?**
