**The short answer.** Tutix does not have ready-made contest programs yet, but you can start a math-contest class today: say which contest, and the AI tutor teaches the techniques live and works problems with you. AMC 10 and AMC 12 are 25 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes; the AIME is a harder, invitation-style 15-question round.

- AMC 8: 25 questions, 40 minutes
- AMC 10 and 12: 25 questions, 75 minutes; 6 points per correct answer, 1.5 for a blank
- AIME: 15 integer answers; from 2027 two 90-minute parts
- No calculators

## The contests

| Contest | Questions | Time | Scoring |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AMC 8 | 25 multiple choice | 40 minutes | 1 point per correct answer |
| AMC 10 | 25 multiple choice | 75 minutes | 6 per correct, 1.5 per blank, 0 per wrong |
| AMC 12 | 25 multiple choice | 75 minutes | 6 per correct, 1.5 per blank, 0 per wrong |
| AIME | 15, each an integer 000 to 999 | From 2027, two 90-minute parts | 1 point per correct answer |

The MAA's rules allow writing utensils, erasers, blank scratch paper and rulers (and compasses on the AMC 10 and 12), and prohibit calculators, formula sheets and any device that can send or receive information, such as a phone or smartwatch. Students who reach a qualifying score on the AMC 10 or 12 can take the AIME, and the strongest AIME scorers are invited to the national olympiad rounds. The MAA says the 2027 AIME is a computer-based exam taken at Pearson test centers on February 5 and 6, 2027. Check maa.org for the current rules, scoring, eligibility, thresholds, fees and dates before you register.

## Dates this season

| Contest | When |

| AMC 8 | A window from January 21 to 27, 2027 |
| AIME | February 5 and 6, 2027, at test centers |

These are the dates on the MAA's pages on October 21, 2026. Confirm them, and the registration deadlines and fees, on maa.org.

## What contest math needs

Contest problems reward ideas more than formulas: counting and probability, number theory, algebra and geometry, with a short, clever route to each answer. Practising them means learning the standard techniques and then meeting many problems where you must choose one.

## How to prepare with Tutix today

1. Start a class and name the subject. Type the contest and topic, for example AMC 10: counting and probability. The wizard suggests what the classes should cover, and you can edit it.
2. Attach your syllabus or your own notes if you have them, so the tutor teaches the topics your course actually lists.
3. Choose a tutor and a rhythm. Seven tutor personalities; a fixed weekly time, week by week, or start whenever you like.
4. Join the class. You talk, the tutor teaches on a shared whiteboard and slides, and reads what you write while you are still in class.
5. Read the recap. After each class you see what was covered and what is next, and the next class starts from there.

A class, opened. A sample written to show how a class sounds (not a real learner); the scores show how the exam would credit each answer.

> **Number theory · Common multiples.** Question: How many positive integers less than 100 are divisible by both 4 and 6?
> The student wrote: 4 × 6 = 24, and 24, 48, 72, 96 gives 4. (the exam would credit 0 of 1)
> The tutor: Divisible by both means a multiple of the least common multiple, not of the product. 4 and 6 share a factor of 2. What is the smallest number both divide?
> The student then wrote: lcm(4, 6) = 12, and the multiples of 12 below 100 are 12, 24, …, 96. That is 8 numbers. (the exam would credit 1 of 1)

> **Practice material.** Real contest problems are copyrighted by the MAA and its rules forbid sharing them while students can still compete. The tutor teaches the techniques with problems of its own.

Ready-made programs exist today for AP and IGCSE, drawn side by side on the Programs page; for the AMC, the tutor builds the classes from your own syllabus or notes.

## What it costs

You can start on the Free plan: 45 live class minutes a month (about one class of the default length), no card needed. Pro is $15 a month for 6 hours of live class time, and Pro+ is $30 for 15 hours.

| Plan | Price | Live class time a month | Works out to | Note |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | $0 | 45 min | about one class | No card needed |
| Pro | $15 a month | 360 min (6 hours) | $2.50 an hour | $150 a year if paid yearly |
| Pro+ | $30 a month | 900 min (15 hours) | $2 an hour | $300 a year if paid yearly |
| Pico | No monthly fee | Pay as you go | $3 an hour ($0.05 a minute) | Paid from a wallet you top up |

The hourly figure is the plan's price divided by the live class hours it includes, when you use them all. Live class time is the tutor teaching you; other limits (study items, messages, uploads) are on the pricing page.

## Questions

**What is the difference between AMC 10 and AMC 12?**

Both are 25 questions in 75 minutes. The AMC 10 is for students in grade 10 or below and the AMC 12 for grade 12 or below, with harder content on the AMC 12.

**What is the AIME?**

The American Invitational Mathematics Examination, a 15-question round for strong AMC 10 and 12 scorers, with integer answers from 000 to 999.

**Can I use a calculator on the AMC?**

No. The MAA's rules prohibit calculators and formula sheets, and any device that can send or receive information, such as a phone or smartwatch. They allow writing utensils, erasers, blank scratch paper and rulers, and compasses on the AMC 10 and 12.

**Does Tutix have an AMC program?**

Not ready-made yet. You can start contest classes today by naming the contest and topic.

**Is Tutix affiliated with the MAA?**

No. AMC and AIME are competitions run by the Mathematical Association of America, which is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, Tutix.
