**The short answer.** Exam prep works when you practice the exam itself: its units, its question styles and its command words. Tutix has ready-made unit-by-unit programs for seven AP courses and five Cambridge IGCSE courses, with practice papers, and the tutor can build classes around any other exam from your syllabus and your own notes.

- Seven AP courses and five Cambridge IGCSE courses, taught unit by unit
- Five levels, from a short review to the deepest level
- Practice papers and exam-style questions
- Command words and mark-scheme habits, taught as you go
- A recap after each class: what was covered, what to do next

## Prepare in the order the exam rewards

Every exam spends its marks unevenly. In the ready-made programs each unit shows its share of the exam where the board publishes one, what the questions in that unit ask for and the slips that are common, so the time goes where the marks are. Start with the program for your exam: see every program.

## Practice the command words

“State”, “describe”, “explain” and “calculate” ask for different things, and answers lose marks for giving the wrong one. In a Tutix class the tutor reads what you wrote against what the question asked for, tells you what is missing, then asks you to rewrite.

A class, opened. A sample written to show how a class sounds (not a real learner); the scores show how the exam would credit each answer.

> **Physics · Work done.** Question: Calculate the work done when a force of 40 N moves a box 3 m in the direction of the force.
> The student wrote: 43 J (the exam would credit 0 of 2)
> The tutor: Work done = force × distance. Say the equation first, then substitute, then give the unit. That is how the marks are awarded.
> The student then wrote: W = F × d = 40 × 3 = 120 J (the exam would credit 2 of 2)

## Plan backwards from exam day

Count the weeks you have, then work out how many classes a week the program needs. A class is usually 45 or 60 minutes, and every level teaches the same units, so a shorter plan is a lighter pass, not a gap.

| Program | Weeks at 2 a week | At 3 a week | At 4 a week | Hours | Classes of 45 min |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AP Calculus AB | 20 | 13 | 10 | 29.2 | 39 |
| AP Calculus BC | 27 | 18 | 14 | 39.8 | 53 |
| AP Precalculus | 18 | 12 | 9 | 26.2 | 35 |
| AP Statistics | 17 | 12 | 9 | 25.5 | 34 |
| IGCSE Additional Mathematics | 8 | 5 | 4 | 11 | 15 |
| IGCSE Mathematics | 15 | 10 | 8 | 21.2 | 29 |
| AP Biology | 16 | 11 | 8 | 23.8 | 32 |
| AP Chemistry | 21 | 14 | 11 | 30.8 | 41 |
| IGCSE Biology | 17 | 11 | 9 | 24.5 | 33 |
| IGCSE Chemistry | 8 | 5 | 4 | 11.2 | 15 |
| IGCSE Physics | 13 | 9 | 7 | 18.2 | 25 |
| AP Human Geography | 17 | 12 | 9 | 25 | 34 |

Other exams work the same way. For the SAT, ACT, IB, A Level, GCSE and the math competitions, tell the tutor your syllabus or upload your own notes and it builds the classes around them: see the exams we tutor for.

The Programs page draws every ready-made program's hours at each level on one scale, so you can match a program to the weeks you have.

## What it costs

You can start on the Free plan: 45 live class minutes a month (about one class of the default length), no card needed. Pro is $15 a month for 6 hours of live class time, and Pro+ is $30 for 15 hours.

## Questions

**What exams does Tutix prepare for?**

Seven AP courses and five Cambridge IGCSE courses have ready-made programs. For the SAT, ACT, IB, A Level, GCSE and math competitions, the tutor builds classes from the syllabus or notes you give it.

**How many weeks does exam prep take?**

It depends on the course and the level. At the Standard level the ready-made programs take between about 11 and 39.8 hours of teaching, which is roughly 5 to 18 weeks at three 45-minute classes a week.

**Are there practice papers?**

The Full syllabus level of a ready-made program includes two full practice papers written for Tutix in the style of the real exam.

**Can the tutor check my written answers?**

Yes. The tutor reads what you write during class and tells you what is missing, using the exam's own command words.

**Can I use it alongside school?**

Yes. Use classes to practice what you covered at school and to fill the gaps.

**Is it enough on its own?**

Check the board's specification and ask your teacher. Tutix helps you learn and practice the syllabus; it does not replace your school's course or the real papers.
